Introduction to Aluminum Extrusions

Aluminum extrusion is a process that transforms aluminum alloy into objects with a definitive cross-sectional profile for a wide range of applications. This method has been widely adopted across industries due to its flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to produce complex shapes.

The production of aluminum extrusions involves several steps, starting from billet preparation through heating, extruding, quenching, stretching, and finally aging or heat treatment. Each step plays a critical role in determining the final properties of the product.
•Billet Preparation: High-quality aluminum alloys are melted and cast into cylindrical logs known as billets.
•Heating: The billets are then heated to soften them before they can be pushed through the die.
•Extrusion: Under high pressure, the softened metal is forced through a die opening, taking on the shape of the die.
•Quenching & Stretching: After extrusion, products are cooled (quenched) rapidly to harden, followed by stretching to straighten and relieve internal stresses.
•Aging/Heat Treatment: Final adjustments to the material’s mechanical properties are made through controlled heating and cooling processes.

Aluminum extrusions find use in an extensive array of applications, including but not limited to:
• Construction: Window frames, door frames, and structural supports.
• Transportation: Automotive parts, aircraft components, and railway carriages.
• Consumer Goods: Furniture, lighting fixtures, and electronics casings.
• Renewable Energy: Solar panel mounting systems and wind turbine structures.
