What are the Differences between 5 Series Aluminum Profiles and 6 Series Aluminum Profiles?

Different types of aluminum profiles have different usages. Today we will introduce to you the differences between 5 series aluminum profiles and 6 series aluminum profiles.

First, their alloy compositions are different:

5 series aluminum profiles use magnesium as the main alloy element, and the magnesium content is 3-5%, so they are also called aluminum-magnesium alloys (Al-Mg). The main models are 5005, 5050, 5252, 5083, etc., which are the most commonly used aluminum alloy profiles.

6 series aluminum profiles use magnesium and selenium as the main alloy elements, also known as aluminum-magnesium-selenium alloy (Al-Mg-Si). The main models are: 6005, 6061, 6063, 6101, 6351, 6A02, etc., including the advantages of 5 series aluminum profiles.

Second, their characteristics are different:

The density of 5 series aluminum profiles is very low, while the tensile strength and elongation are excellent, and the weight is very light. With the same area, 5 series aluminum profiles are lighter than other series of aluminum profiles and non heat treatable reinforcement.

The 6 series aluminum profiles have medium strength, good corrosion resistance, qualified plasticity, excellent weldability, which are not easy to crack, and have good cold workability. It is an aluminum profile that can be strengthened by heat treatment.

Third, the application scopes are different:

5 series aluminum profiles have a wide range of applications, mainly in transportation, aviation, and shipbuilding. Among them, aviation includes aircraft fuel tanks and oil pipes; transportation includes automobile air pipes, oil pipes, and sheet metal parts; ship instruments and sheet metal parts; and fireproof pressure vessels, television towers, and drilling equipment that require higher weldability, missile components, etc. Some thin aluminum profiles can be used as lining boards for refrigerators.

The 6 series aluminum profile is a cold-processed aluminum forged profile that can be used to manufacture products that require high strength, such as aluminum profile escalator steps and TV antennas. It can also be used to make products that require high strength and corrosion resistance, such as trucks, tower buildings, etc. Industrial aluminum profiles are most widely used, including assembly line workbenches, aluminum profile safety fences, aluminum profile wire rod shelves, automotive equipment frames, aluminum profile workbenches and various automation equipment; there are also some complex-shaped aircraft engine parts and forgings; some pipelines transporting water and oil also use 6 series aluminum profiles.
